At Hana Inn, our goal is to provide clean, comfortable and budget-friendly lodging in a beautiful but often costly part of Maui. We’ve renovated our rooms to be as homey as possible, offering a welcoming space to relax after a day of exploring the wonders of Hana

Please Note: Like most affordable accommodations in Hana (excluding the higher-priced hotel option), our rooms Do Not Have Air Conditioning or individual TVs. We cater to travelers who prioritize a clean, comfortable place to stay at a fair price allowing them to allocate their vacation budget to experiencing the beauty of Hana. East Maui is renowned for its lush tropical rainforests, featuring cascading waterfalls, Haleakala’s steep mountain slopes, and diverse plant and animal life. 

We are a family owned and operated 8-room island-style inn. A perfect stopover for affordably immersing yourself in the “old Hawai’i” of the east side of Maui, getting a good night’s rest and starting your day early to explore waterfalls, beaches, and more.

Important Policies:

• Cancellation Policy: 
• A full refund is available only if you cancel within 24 hours of booking.
• If you cancel your reservation 2 weeks or more before check-in, a $65 re-booking fee will be deducted from your refund.
• Reservation changes are not guaranteed within 2 weeks of your arrival date.

Cancellations made within 2 weeks of your arrival date will not receive a refund.

Exceptions: Exceptions are rarely made and are limited to extreme circumstances outside of your control. Note: Weather warnings and travel advisories are NOT the same as road closures. These are warnings to drive carefully and be safe, the road is still open. East Maui, particularly along the Road to Hana, is a lush tropical rainforest. Extreme weather is not considered a valid reason for a refund unless HDOT specifically issues full Road Closures for more than half the day affecting both Hawaii Route 360/ Hana Highway and Route 31/Pi’ilani Highway at the same time. Even during storms county crews actively keep the road clear.

• Children under 7: One child per room that is under 7 years old stays free! 
• Max occupancy in rooms:
  We recommend groups with a large number of children to book multiple rooms, or book Room #7, which is our family suite that sleeps up to 6 (4 adults and 2 children).  If your group  is more than the max occupancy you need to book multiple rooms. This is a fire-code related issue, we cannot make exceptions.  
• Children and max guest occupancy per room:
  Common sense guideline is if the child is old enough to have outgrown a crib, they count towards room occupancy. Children ages 4 or older are included in the number of room occupants. Babies and toddlers (3 or younger) are treated as children but do not count towards total room occupancy.

DOWNSTAIRS ROOMS (Economy Specials) ROOMS 1, 2 and 3

Joe’s Place (the original name) was how locals afforded to visit Hana. Hana Inn still honors that niche by offering a budget-friendly option to stay in an expensive area. Each room has its own private bathroom. To keep you cool and comfortable each room has a ceiling fan and floor fan. We do not have AC. The downstairs rooms are comfortable yet on budget for those who don’t need much more than a place to sleep for the night. For Room 1 and Room 2, private use bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower is accessed across the hall. Room 3 has a bathroom en suite (inside the room). All doors use electronic keypad locks for security and privacy.
We provide sheets, bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, hand soap, shampoo and body wash. Maximum occupancy for each downstairs room is up to 3 people. For more info, below is a more detailed description of each of our rooms.

Our Economy specials –

Room 1: Kama’aina Room (Ground Floor)

Kam’aaina is Hawaiian for ‘Local’ as many Maui and other island locals will choose this budget room. Room 1 is on the Ground Floor, with a single bed and a full sized bed, base pricing is for two people.  It has one tradewind facing window. The room is an amazing deal, especially for 3 people. The room has a ceiling fan, one floor fan (additional fan on request) and a mini fridge. The private full bathroom across the hallway (not an ensuite bathroom) has a sink, toilet and shower. All doors are secured by electric door locks. 

• Beds: One double bed and one single bed.
• Occupancy: Up to 3 people (single, double, or triple occupancy).
• Additional Person Fee: $20 + tax for a third person  (children under 7 stay free as the first child).
• Bathroom: Exclusive use of a private bathroom across the hallway.

Room 2: Makai Room (Corner Room, Ground Floor)

Makai means “ocean side of the road’ in Hawaiian. This room sleeps up to 3 on a full bed and twin bed. Room 2 is a corner room with two windows, one of which is tradewind facing, for the best airflow of all our downstairs rooms. The room has a ceiling fan, one floor fan (additional fan on request) and a mini fridge. The private bathroom across the hallway (not an ensuite bathroom) has a toilet, sink, shower and tub. All doors are secured by electric door locks.

• Occupancy: Up to 3 people (single, double, or triple occupancy).
• Additional Person Fee: $20 + tax for a third person (one child under 7 stays free).
• Features: Corner room with extra light.
• Bathroom: Exclusive use of a private bathroom across the hallway.

Room 3: Ohana Room (Ground Floor)

Ohana Room 3 is our most private room downstairs.  Ohana means ‘family’ in Hawaiian. The room sleeps up to 3 on a full and twin bed. The room has one window in the room, with a second window in the en suite bath. The room has a ceiling fan, one floor fan (additional fan on request) and a mini fridge. Recently renovated, this room is your best option if you are looking for comfort on a budget. 

• Beds: One double bed and one single bed.
• Occupancy: Up to 3 people (single, double, or triple occupancy).
• Additional Person Fee: $20 + tax for a third person (one child under 7 stays free per room).
• Features: Ground floor access.

 ROOM 6 Makoa Room (Hana Bay View – Small Honeymoon Room)
Indulge in the Makoa Room. Makoa means ‘Courageous’ in Hawaiian. Room 6 is perfect for couples or solo travelers seeking a special retreat, our upstairs Makoa Room boasts what many consider the best direct room view in the entire Hana Inn, looking out over breathtaking Hana Bay. Imagine waking up to that incredible view! This room features a comfortable King-sized bed for a restful night’s sleep. Your exclusive-use, private bathroom is located conveniently across the hallway, secured with an electronic door lock for your privacy (not an ensuite bathroom). The bathroom across the hall has a toilet, sink and tiled shower with mosaic art and filtered water from a separate tap. Inside the room is a filtered water pitcher and mini fridge. Choose the Makoa Room for an unforgettable Hana experience, combining stunning scenery with unique artistic touches.

• Occupancy: Up to 2 people (single or double occupancy).
• Features: Upstairs room with Hana Bay view. Ideal for couples or singles.

Room 7: Big Kahuna Room (Hana Bay View – Family/Group Room)

With a queen bed, a full bed, and a twin XL bunk bed, there’s plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax (sleeps up to 4 adults and 2 kids!). It’s the ideal setup for creating those unforgettable Maui memories together. Access your room from a private exterior entry. Enjoy your private deck which offers a fantastic spot to enjoy the view of Hana Bay and feel the ocean breeze, which enters your room from 8 foot trade wind facing windows. Share stories from your day’s adventures, or simply soak in the beauty of Hana. Plus, with its own private bathroom ensuite, you get the convenience your group needs. Inside the room is a filtered water pitcher and mini fridge. Make Hana Inn your home base for exploring all the wonders of East Maui.   Ideal For: Friend groups and families traveling with children. Overflow can be accommodated in Rooms 5 or 6 (King beds).
