Welcome to Hana Inn, in beautiful Hana on Maui

As of 2018, we are under new ownership and new management, and hope to see you soon.
Hana is one of the last undeveloped areas of Maui. The destination itself has been somewhat eclipsed by the “Road to Hana,” which has the most breathtaking waterfalls and exquisite coastlines of all the islands.

About the Old Joe’s Place Legacy

Joe’s place was originally established in 1923. It was completely rebuilt in 1982 into its current shape and rooms. After being purchased by the Franklin family under the new name “Hana Inn” in May, 2018, it was restored again — all interior floors, doors, fixtures, switches, faucets, toilets, bathroom vanities and sinks replaced, with new beds and new furnishings. We will be making the name transition to Hana Inn, formerly Joe’s Place over 2020, and move entirely to Hana Inn in the future.  The exterior, as of January 2020, aside from the new windows and doors is rustic Hawaiian.

The property is a one + acre parcel edged on both sides and the upper side with Banana trees, palms, and many native flowers. A view of Hana Bay and the outer coastline can be seen from the upper part of the property as well as rooms 5, 6 and 7. The common living room is for the use of all guests, and has new flooring, furnishings and HD Cable/TV in the common TV room. The common kitchen, shared by ‘The House’, has had less work structurally or cosmetically, but does have new pots and pans, so feel free to cook.

Please note: The floor plan WAS for shared bathrooms, excepting room 8 which is the only room currently with an en suite bathroom.

Each room or family group will be assigned an EXCLUSIVE USE Bathroom, either ensuite or in the hallway right outside the door to your Room. We have a outdoor BBQ grille which can be used by guests, Your room has a mini fridge. The common Kitchen Has a full size fridge, Microwave, electric kettle, stove and oven.

The ratio of bathrooms is downstairs – 2 bathrooms for the 3 bedrooms, 1, 2 and 3.  All rooms upstairs have a private bathroom. Our place, like nearly every other place on this side of the island under $800 per night, does not have Air Conditioning. We usually have wonderful on shore breezes, and of course the Hawaiian style ceiling fans.

HANA INN, as well as every other place in Hana we know of, has NO AC, and NO TVS in the rooms.  There is a TV in the shared Living Room for guest use.  Shared Bathrooms.  Shared Kitchen.

CHECK IN is preferred no earlier than 3:00PM, Bags can sometimes be droipped early in office BY PRE ARRANGEMENT.

CHECK OUT is no later than 10:00AM to give us time to properly prepare the rooms.

CANCELLATION POLICY:    We prefer people to be sure when they book, but up until 2 weeks before checking in equals a full refund, less a $25 re booking fee.

PAYMENT POLICY: IMPORTANT:

It is recommended to pay for your room in full when making the booking, however you can choose to just pay a 50% deposit. If you do just pay the deposit, and we have not received payment after the 14 day reminder, nor the 7 day reminder with full payment (as your confirmation also) your reservation MAY be LOST.  You must be confirmed in writing, or PAYMENT RECEIVED at least a week before arrival.  YOUR ARRIVAL MUST BE CONFIRMED . Mahalo

Be safe, stay healthy.

Location

Located on 4870 Uakea Road, the street that skirts Hana Bay, it is a 4 minute walk to get your feet wet at Hana Bay, swim, or jump off the pier. Walk to Hana Bar and catch the dolphins playing in the early morning swells. Walk 4 minutes along Uakea road in the other direction from Joe’s Place (back towards civilization – the way you came), and you are on a beautiful black rock beach, perfect for viewing the sunrise. The three Bay View rooms (5, 6 AND 7) also enjoy the Hana Bay sunrise view, with the outer coast of the Hana Bay in the background. The power of the Hawaiian Hana sun at sunrise is so powerful we have put additional black-out drapes at the large windows, so it is possible to sleep in – although sunrise over Hana Bay, and sunrise at Haleakala crater are both moments you won’t want to miss. Get in the car and you are less than 5 minutes from Hana Ranch bar and restaurant, Hasegawa’s General Store, and the famous Hana Food Trucks. Another few minutes drive from Hana and you’re in Hamoa Beach. How to pick a beach to go to? Black sand beach, white sand Koke Beach, red sand beach, the refreshing fresh water Venus Pools… all within a few minutes drive of our property.

Getting here

We are only 3.7 miles from Hana Airport, and can arrange a flight for you from Kahalui OGG to Hana. The flight takes about 15 minutes, and flies at low altitude along the coast. The drive along the Hana Highway is world-famed for its beautiful tropical nature, stunning vistas, numerous waterfalls and swimming holes, and curving paths through the mountains. The drive is at least 2 hours to travel the 49 miles. But figure extra time, as you will want to stop at many of the look-out points. Often a good idea to send us an email once you arrive on Maui to hanainnmaui@gmail.com.

PLEASE NOTE: Hana Road Courtesy – When driving either direction, when you notice any truck or car behind you, kindly pull aside at the first opportunity, and allow the local driver to pass. They know the road, and often have appointments to get to. That allows you to have a more scenic, and peaceful drive. If they honk, please pull over immediately. This makes Good Aloha.

FIRE UPDATE November 21

“GOVERNOR GREEN: VISITORS SHOULD AVOID WEST MAUI FOR NOW, TRAVELERS WELCOME ELSEWHERE ON MAUI”

“It would be catastrophic if no one traveled to the island.”

August 18  Gov. Josh Green of Hawaii stressed on Monday Aug 14, that ONLY West Maui — Lahaina, along with about a dozen hotels and resorts nearby that were not damaged — should be considered closed to visitors. Other areas to the southeast are still open, he noted. “It would be catastrophic if no one traveled to the island,” he said.

OFFICIAL Release from Maui Hotel & Lodging Association August 18: “We understand the concern for the recent messaging being displayed to the world and the effects it will have on tourism. Press has been inquiring and we have been careful to respond sensitively but accurately that, “Lahaina is closed, however, Maui is open.” Specifically, we have mentioned that not all of West Maui is fire damaged and is still intact and operating and that South Maui and Hana are open and ready for responsible visitors.”

Read as : PLEASE come to Maui. THAT will support Maui, and you will be helping our road to recovery!

ADVICE for Visitors – Now and the next MONTHS:

PLEASE stay away from the entire West side of Maui! Be considerate and conscious of areas you go, and stay in tourist areas.
